Mariah Carey ushered in the new year in New York with a spectacularly terrible live performance.
Broadcast to millions on live TV, the 46-year-old appeared to have a few technical difficulties during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest, which went out on the ABC Network.
At one point, she even gave up on singing her song Emotions, instead telling the audience to finish the lyrics for her while she awkwardly paced the stage.
This bit was perhaps the most talked about part of the performance...

Although we particularly enjoy this bit, where she makes virtually no attempt to cover up the fact she's lip syncing...

As is often the case with this sort of thing, those that were tweeting about it were far from kind:

Although Carey will undoubtedly have been embarrassed by her performance, the tweet she sent out afterwards didn't show it too much.

Shit happens indeed.
