Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also confirmed the news, saying that the MCU was indeed going to finally get its first openly queer superhero.
"The answer is yes,” he told i09 of Valkyrie being openly LGBT+.
“How that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you’ll see across our films, not in just Thor 4.”
Fans of the movies have applauded the move, with many hoping that Valkyrie will manage to find her queen in the form of Brie Larson's Captain Marvel.
“Of course I would love the chance to work with Brie,” Thompson said after her character was first introduced in Thor: Ragnarok.
“We’re like women’s women, so the idea of getting to do something that little girls are excited about, and people that identify as women feel excited about, is cool.”
Both actors have also previously shared fan art of their characters being linked romantically too, so it may not entirely be beyond the realm of possibility for the pair to get together.
Here's hoping anyway.
