This might just be the best horror movie of the year, according to critics
2018 is going to be a great year for scary movie fans.
Gabriel Byrne's new horror movie Hereditary, which early audiences described as "the most traumatically terrifying horror movie in ages", looks to have some stiff competition for the title of the scariest movie of the year.
Writer and director of the movie John Krasinksi took to the stage with his co-star and wife Emily Blunt at the SXSW festival this weekend after the screening of his directorial debut A Quiet Place, and to say it went well is a bit of an understatement...

In case you don't already know, the movie deals with a mostly-unseen monstrous presence that hunts entirely based on sound, so Krasinksi, Blunt and their two kids leave a minimal, silent life in the woods, until they become the focus of the creature and are forced into horrific situations in order to survive.

And as for those early reactions?
A Quiet Place will knock your socks off. A non-stop thrill ride that will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. John Krasinski has found his calling with this incredible genre film that is one of the best in years. See it with a crowd. #SXSW18 #AQuietPlace pic.twitter.com/tt76Rl3s7H

#AQuietPlace: Wow. Opening night at #SXSW brought it *hard.* Thrilling, tremendous sound design and genuinely frightening. What could have been a “gimmick” flick strikes fear and tugs the heartstrings. Survival horror with the right influences.

A QUIET PLACE: A great horror film that excels at living and thriving in painfully uncomfortable tension. A couple of cheap jump scares aside, it’s a lean, mean adrenaline generating machine. The audience went wild when the credits rolled. #AQuietPlace #SXSW

Jim from the office pardon me!!! @JohnKrasnick did the damn thing!!! He per his words is not a ‘genre guy’ but he did it on #AQuietPlace. Don’t sleep on this one y’all! This is gonna be one that folks should & will show out for. Few words on screen yet the scares are defending! pic.twitter.com/YIGK3QrFYa
