Mureil’s Wedding The Musical is happening

Interesting!

We’d love to see this!

It seems to be the time for classic films to be remade in musical form. First we were delighted to hear that Moulin Rouge is being adapted for the stage and now we can’t wait for the musical Bridget Jones.

Toni Collette’s breakout film Muriel’s Wedding is the latest much-loved film to get an on stage adaption.

The 1994 comedy centered around Muriel Heslop, who is a huge ABBA fan. She dreams of a romantic, perfect wedding day despite being single and never having gone on a date.

The musical will obviously feature ABBA songs as well as along with plenty of new tracks which will help tell the story.

The musical will debut in Australia of course, where the film was set. It will be shown in Sydney’s Roslyn Packer Theatre in 2017.

The show will run from November 6th to December 30th.

Muriel’s story will get a bit of an update though, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The shows notes imply that the musical will be set in modern times as it says that Muriel “ends up with everything she ever wanted — a man, a fortune and a million Twitter followers. That’s when things start to go really wrong.”

We’re intrigued!
