Yesterday, Madonna voiced her support for a feminist punk bank who are currently standing trial in Russia. Today, however, it looks as though her comments may have backfired…
The Moscow Times reports that US Embassy officials have urged fans to be vigilant after they received some information suggesting that there would be physical violence at Madonna’s upcoming gig in St Petersburg.
The concert, which will kick off tomorrow, is taking place at the Petersburg Sports and Concert complex, and Russian authorities have taken the information seriously and have said that additional security measures will be put in place.
Moscow and St Petersburg are the only Russian stops on Madonna’s current world tour, and since the singer’s comments about the controversial band Pussy Riot yesterday, fears are growing that something could happen at the gig tomorrow.
Yesterday Madonna stated that she fully supports freedom of speech and hopes that the judge will show leniency to the three women from the band Pussy Riot. The women are accused of insulting the Russian Orthodox Church when they performed a “punk prayer” in public that called for the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, to be removed from power.

The members of Pussy Riot.
“I just want to say a few words about Pussy Riot. I mean no disrespect to the church or the government, but I think that these three girls – Masha, Katya, Nadya – have done something courageous, have paid the price for their act, and I pray for their freedom,” said Madonna.
The female musicians are facing up to seven years in jail if they are found guilty.
