It was fast becoming one of the most popular festivals in the country but the Westport Festival is no more.
Organisers confirmed this morning that the event will be relocated to Killarney next summer and rebranded as the Killarney Festival of Music and Food.
In a statement to the event's Facebook page, a spokesperson said that the move was a "difficult decision" and the two-day event would now be held in Kerry on the weekend of June 27th and 28th.
The announcement sparked an angry reaction from followers, who argued that the picturesque location of the Mayo town was key to the success of the event.
Responding to the comments, a spokesperson said "we don't want to go into the reasons other than to say we wanted the festival to remain in Westport and continue to grow, but elements on a local level imposed on the festival made it impossible to continue".
Tickets for the new festival go on sale on Friday December 12th.
