Una Healy has revealed that she’s delighted, thrilled and over the moon since her band, The Saturdays, signed a record deal in the US.
Yes, Una, Rochelle, Frankie, Mollie and Vanessa have just inked a deal with the world-famous Island Def Jam and Mercury Records for an album release in the United States.
“We feel like the time is now for pop music coming from the UK and Ireland,” said Una, who is originally from Tipperary.
“But there’s never been a girl band coming from there since the Spice Girls. It’s time for us,” she added.
Una and the girls are planning to release their debut US single in January 2013, but at the minute they’re having a hard time deciding on the song. The US music market is notoriously hard for European acts to break into, so you know girls, no pressure or anything like!

According to reports, the girls have been working with US songwriter Diane Warren, who has written for Celine Dion and Aerosmith, and with Rodney Jerkins, the man responsible for hits by Michael Jackson and the Spice Girls.
Frankie, Una’s bandmate, recently admitted that the girls were nervous about leaving their British and Irish fans to crack America, saying: “we were so afraid to leave…”
However, Una is eager to roll up her sleeves and start working on this new project.
We know that cracking America is a hard thing to achieve, but we’re pretty sure that if anyone will be able to do it, it’ll be Una and co.
