Sir Paul McCartney is a music legend, having been part of The Beatles and also carving out a successful solo career, but now he is joining forces with a new group!
Well they’re not exactly new in the true sense of the world but he’s never played with them before so they are technically new.
McCartney with the other Beatles: John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison.
Anyway, the Live and Let Die singer is taking to the stage as part of Nirvana who are reuniting on stage in New York this evening for a charity concert.
McCartney will be taking the place of original lead singer Kurt Cobain, who died in 1995, for the gig which is in aid of the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
He has been working secretly with band members Dave Grohl, also of Foo Fighters fame, and Krist Novoselic in preparation for the performance which came about during a telephone call.
Kurt Cobain was the original lead singer in Nirvana.
According to The Sun the former Beatle rang up Grohl who invited him to a jamming session with the group who had a number of hits during the 90s, including Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are, and haven't played together in 20 years.
Speaking about the experience, McCartney said: “I didn’t really know who they were… And somebody whispered to me ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”
Nirvana and Sir Paul will be sharing the stage with a few other music greats including The Who, Bruce Springsteen and Eric Clapton.
