A Pop and Rock memorabilia auction will take place this weekend in the RDS and there are some gems up for grabs. Amongst the various memorabilia from other bands, Elvis very first record “That’s Alright Mama” will be auctioned at 2pm on Sunday 24th March.
The original acetate recording, dated July 5th 1954, was the first song recorded by the legend and following its first outing on radio airwaves, was played a further 14 times in one day. Ian Whyte, who is running the auction, informed the Irish Independent that the record was expected to fetch up to €50,000.
Other items that will be auctioned this weekend will include an Aer Lingus menu signed by the four Beatles on a flight to Ireland for their gig here in the Adelphi and is expected to get up to €500. There are also several Beatles posters, autographs, tickets and concert programmes.

As well as the above, the first press mention of U2 is up for grabs, dated 1978, with all the band name’s members spelt incorrectly. A chain that Elvis was known to give to many of his inner circle stating “Taking Care of Business” is also expected to fetch up to €7,000.
Whyte’s have promised there is something from everyone, with bids starting at €100 and working up to the Elvis record at €50,000.
