This week we have fallen in love with the vocal chords of Irish artist, Hozier.
Andrew Hozier-Byrne, is the Wicklow lad who has been making waves in the music scene since the release of his debut EP, 'Take Me To The Church'. With the music video for his first single of the same name going live this week, this is one musician that will be difficult to forget.
Lyrics such as, “I was born sick but I love it, Command me to be well”, the title track is about the futile relationship between sex and religion, with an immensely powerful video to accompany the message.
The four minute video reflects on the love between two males, played by Daniel Coughlan and Emmet O'Riabhaigh, and how that love is continually oppressed in a society that cannot understand it, making the men the subject of brutal attacks.
"The song was always about humanity at its most natural, and how that is undermined ceaselessly by religious organisations and those who would have us believe they act in its interests," Hozier explained.
"The video references the recent increase of organised attacks and torturing of homosexuals in Russia, which is subsequent to a long, hateful, and oppressive political campaign against the LGBT community."
The video is the master piece of Irish director Brendan Canty and his Feel Good Lost team.
'Take Me To The Church', a fresh and soulfully charged unforgettable sound makes the singer-songwriter definitely one to watch.
Hozier will headline at The Pepper Canister Church, Dublin on Sunday 8thDecember and his debut EP is available to download now at Bandcamp and iTunes.
