The Weeknd has donated $500,000 to the Black Lives Matter movement and other related groups. Sharing screenshots of his sizeable donations, the singer urged others "with big pockets" to donate what they could in support of the movement against racism and police brutality. These significant donations come one week after the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody after a white officer knelt on his neck for an extended period of time. Floyd's death triggered mass protests around the US and the world, as thousands took to the streets to protest systematic racism, discrimination, and police brutality. Similarly, many Instagram users have opted to share black tiles on their pages today in support of #BlackoutTuesday.  The solidarity initiative is a response to police brutality in the US and the systematic racism that still exists in America and around the world. Users are opting to post a simple black tile on their feed and are committing to not posting anything else for the rest of the day, unless directly related to the Black Lives Matter movement.
