It has been reported that a trial will begin this week in order to determine who wrote a number of the Village People’s songs, including the classic YMCA.
According to reports, one of the original band members Victor Willis won legal action in 2012 for rights to his share of the band’s songs.
He now claims that he is entitled to a 50% share due to the fact that he was one of two songwriters.
Billboard reports however that publishers Can’t Stop Productions and Scorpio Music believe he is only due a 33% share. They list a third author, Henri Belolo.
