Netflix has confirmed that it is implementing price changes in a number of European countries, including Ireland, from today, 20 June.
In a statement, the company said that it is increasing the price of Standard and Premium plans to reflect the improvements it is continually making to the service.
Netflix pointed to interactive programmes such as Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and You Vs Wild and the availability of smart downloads, allowing users to watch content on the go, as examples of investments in better technology to improve the service.
The cost of Netflix’s Basic plan will remain unchanged, at €7.99 per month, but the cost of a Standard plan will increase by €1 to €11.99 per month and the cost of a Premium plan will increase by €2 to €15.99 per month.
The price increases will roll out to all new members immediately. Existing members will be notified by email, as well as within the Netflix app, a month before the new prices are applied to them.
Details of the various options available to Netflix customers can be seen below.
Basic: Watch on one screen at a time in Standard Definition. Download videos on one phone or tablet.
Standard: Watch on two screens at a time. HD available. Download videos on two phones or tablets.
