Looks like Storm Ophelia worked out well for some.
After letting the world know that 53 people have watched the controversially bland A Christmas Prince every day since it was released in November, Netflix have now revealed some of Ireland’s viewing habits from 2017.
It would be fair to say, there are a few odd ones we’ve discovered.

As it turns out, Ex-Hurricane Ophelia combined with the release of ‘Mindhunter’ on 13 October and everyone’s attempt to gear up for ‘Stranger Things 2’ meant that Monday, 16 October was the day Ireland hit its binge peak.
There were however, a few patterns less easy to explain…
Alongside the 53 people who have watched A Christmas Prince every day for the last month, one person has apparently seen Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 365 days in a row and in Ireland, one user has seen the 2011 Adam Sandler-Jennifer Aniston rom-com Just Go With It 308 times this year.
Don’t think too much about the who’s or the why’s on that one. No good can come of it.
Regarding the saner habits in Ireland, it would seem that we are obsessed with crime dramas since they make up the bulk of the shows we “devoured” (or watched more than two hours of per day).
These are the shows Ireland devoured this year:
- Ingobernable
- Greenleaf
- The Mist
- 13 Reasons Why
- Marvel’s Iron Fist
- Marvel’s The Defenders
- One Day at a Time
- Santa Clarita Diet
- Riverdale
- Frontier
On the flipside, the shows we watched less than two hours per day were primarily comedies, like ‘GLOW’ and dramas such as ‘The Crown’.
Here is what we savoured this year:

- Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father
- The Confession Tapes
- ASOUE
- GLOW
- Big Mouth
- Neo Yokio
- You Me Her
Then, there is the “cheating” category, or shows we watched ahead of our significant others, which were:
- Narcos
- 13 Reasons Why
- Stranger Things
- Orange is the New Black
- Sense8
- Black Mirror
- Marvel’s The Defenders
- Marvel’s Iron Fist
- Ozark
- MINDHUNTER
On the brighter side, the shows that “Brought Us Together”, or those we watched as a family were riding high on the nostalgia wave. These unifying shows were:
- Stranger Things
- 13 Reasons Why
- A Series of Unfortunate Events
- Star Trek Discovery
- Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
- Riverdale
- Fuller House
- Chef’s Table
- Atypical
- Anne with E
So at the end of 2017, Netflix will almost likely be one of two places where there is a toast to Storm Ophelia during the Christmas party. The other is, of course PornHub.
