From the director of the Ted Bundy series, this will be a treat for horror fans.
While the majority of the true crime documentaries that Netflix commission usually deal with an act of unspeakable evil, murder, and a series of real life horrific events, the online streaming giant has rarely taken the documentary approach to the horror genre itself.
Well, Variety are reporting that this is about to change because Netflix have acquired a new series from Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s company, Imagine Entertainment.
The new documentary series will be helmed by Joe Berlinger, director of the smash-hit series Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes and the feature-length film on Bundy's life which starred Zac Efron, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
The report states that, "The untitled series is described as a gritty and meticulous study of some of America’s most notorious haunted locations."
There are no further details about Berlinger's documentary series but we're very intrigued to see what's in store.
After all, there are countless properties that the filmmakers could explore.
For example, The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado was the inspiration for The Shining. The Conjuring was inspired by the events which unfolded at Harrisville, Rhode Island. Sleepy Hollow is a real town and Poltergeist was based on real hauntings.
The list is endless.
