Netflix customers are today being urged to watch out for a popular scam affecting the services users.
The security company
Eset have waned users that emails with the subject ‘Netflix cancellation’ have been doing the rounds. The email claims the users account has been deleted and it calls for them to click a link and enter their details again.
It reads:
We’re sorry to say goodbye
We’ve cancelled your Netflix Account. This change will be effective <date>.
If you’ve changed your mind and you would like to continue, simply click here: <link> to enjoy TV shows & movies without interruption.
We hope you enjoyed the service – and we’d love to have you back someday.
–The Netflix Team
The link actually directs users to a phishing site which steals credit card and debit card details.
Eset warn users to recognise phishing.
In another post, they say the main details to look out for are:
- Generic and informal greetings
- A request for personal information
- Poor grammar
- Out of the blue correspondence
- Unexpected attachments
- A sense of urgency
- Striking gold
- Peculiar domain names
A few months ago, a similar scam asked Irish users to “update payment method.”
What to look out for:
