Netflix’s Firefly Lane renewed for season two

Sarah McKenna Barry

Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke announced the news in a Q&A video.

Netflix has renewed the touching drama Firefly Lane for a second season.

In the first season, we meet best friends Tully and Kate. The show, which is based on Kristin Hannah’s novel, explores their relationship as adults and uses flashbacks to trace their teenage years together.

Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl plays Tully, a successful talk-show host. Sarah Chalke (of Scrubs fame) plays her best friend Kate, a stay-at-home mom looking to change things up.

Given the way season one ended, fans of the show will be relieved to learn that more Firefly Lane is on the way. When we last left Tully and Kate, viewers were baffled to learn that the duo were no longer speaking to one another. Many were frustrated with the unclear ending, while others assumed the uncertainty opened the show up for a second season.

The show’s stars shared the news of renewal during a Q&A video for Netflix.

Fielding questions from fans, Heigl addressed the question on everyone’s lips.

“Is there gonna be a season two?” Heigl, asked playfully. “And you know, I’m just like, guys. Yes!”

Many viewers were also keen to know why Tully and Kate were no longer speaking to one another.

While she couldn’t give much away, Chalke gave fans a little nudge in the right direction.

“This issue between Tully and Kate. We can’t say much, but we can say it’s family related.”

She later said: “We don’t have all the answers yet, but trust us, it’s going to be worth the wait.

“And, all of your questions will be answered! We can’t wait to go on this journey of Tully and Kate with all of you.”

A release date for season two has not been given just yet, but it seems likely that new episodes of Firefly Lane will hit our screens some time next year.
