After letting the events of Evil Genius settle, plenty of true crime fans will probably be wondering about the next Netflix documentary that they’ll be able to binge watch.
Well, as reported previously, the online streaming giant is about to return to the scene of a crime that has already gripped viewers.
The Staircase originally aired in 2004 but the documentary will return with three brand new episodes to compliment the original feature.
In the upcoming documentary by Oscar-winning director Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, viewers will be introduced to the case that revolved around the crime novelist and accused killer, Michael Peterson.
On December 9th, 2001, Kathleen Peterson was found dead at the bottom of a staircase.
The documentary will chronicle Peterson’s battle to clear his name after his wife was found dead. This being said, when “there’s no murder weapon, there’s no motive,” his innocence is going to be hard to prove.
The trailer has just been released and it gives us a taste of what’s in store.
As to be expected, there’s plenty of footage regarding the trial itself and we’re also going to see interviews with Peterson, his family and his legal team.
Conspiracy, evidence tampering and cover-ups are also implied throughout.
After being given a sneak peek, The New York Times has declared The Staircase to be “a masterpiece.”
All will be revealed when the 13-episodes debut on Netflix from June 8th.
