A new development has been made in Brendan Dassey’s case

This is a major step towards him being freed.

A federal appeals panel has ruled that Brendan Dassey should be re-tried or released from prison. The decision came after they found that Brendan’s confession of killing Teresa Halbach was improperly obtained.

Brendan played a key role in the Netflix series Making A Murderer which saw him and his uncle Steven Avery convicted of murdering Teresa.

The show, which aired in December 2015, was hugely popular and sparked widespread debate over whether or not Brendan and Steven were guilty.

They were on trial separately but were convicted of life for the crime.

According to USA Today, Magistrate William Duffin found that Brendan’s constitutional rights were violated after he was made false promises during his questioning about the murder.

He concluded that, “when considered in conjunction with all relevant factors, most especially Dassey’s age, intellectual deficits and the absence of a supportive adult, rendered Dassey’s confession involuntary.”
