Ah, god.

Nina Dobrev recently lost her pet cat, Lynx to illness. She, like we all would be, was devastated.

So not only did The Vampire Diaries star decide to adopt a rescue dog from a shelter, but she has also said that the dog rescued her.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the actress told of how she felt “so lost” after Lynx passed away, but that her new dog, Maverick, has brought her “back to life.”

Named after Tom Cruise’s character in Top Gun, the rescue dog even accompanied Nina to her interview with the magazine.

She said that the dog coming into her life was exactly what she needed.

“She rescued me as much as I rescued her. I was so lost after Lynx passed, but Maverick brought me back to life.

I call her the world’s chillest dog.”

Bulgarian born Nina also opened up about her reasons for leaving The Vampire Diaries after six long seasons.

Apparently, the decision was all part of her life plan.

“If anything, the fact that (leaving) terrified me drove me even more (…) I needed to feel that fear of ‘Oh, my God, what if I never get a job again?'”

Nina also said that over the years, she has gotten more and more “picky” about what kinds of roles she wants to take.

“I don’t want to play a teenager anymore. I want to play adult roles and be challenged and work with great filmmakers and tell incredible stories, and that has meant being really picky.”

Nina starred alongside Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley in the series for over seven years before leaving.
