RTÉ confirmed he would not be returning to 2FM earlier this year.

Eoghan McDermott does not make an appearance in the trailer for the upcoming series of Love Island Australia.

The presenter provided the voice-over for the past two seasons of the reality TV dating show, but it has not yet been confirmed whether he will return to this year’s series.

RTÉ confirmed earlier this year that McDermott would not be returning to his 2FM post alongside Doireann Garrihy.

They said: “RTÉ confirms that Eoghan McDermott will not be returning to RTÉ 2FM. His contract is due to expire shortly.

“RTÉ is developing a new direction for the 2FM Breakfast Show which will be revealed in the coming weeks. Doireann Garrihy will remain with the show.”

McDermott was later replaced by Donncha O’Callaghan and Carl Mullan.

The trailer for the upcoming season of Love Island Australia was released over the weekend. Featuring host Sophie Monk and glimpses of this summer’s contestants, the teaser did not feature or allude to the Limerick-born presenter.

“Follow Sophie Monk down under as she drops a fresh batch of hot sexy singles into Love Island Australia!” reads the promo.

It goes on: “Time and time again, Love Islanders share with audiences the relatable, raw and honest moments that we experience in our own lives. They cry through the heartbreak, laugh through the fails, bond through the friendships and fall head over heels into relationships.”

Love Island Australia begins on September 16 on Network 9. The broadcaster has not yet confirmed whether McDermott will reprise his role.
