Nooooo! Designated Survivor has officially been cancelled

It’s a huge move for the network.

Just as we were celebrating the fact that Brooklyn Nine-Nine was saved from cancellation, another one of our favourite shows has been given the axe.

After two seasons, Designated Survivor has been cancelled by ABC.

The drama starred Kiefer Sutherland as Tom Kirkman, a low-level politician who is pushed into becoming the President of the United States after the entire cabinet was murdered in a massive terror attack.

The series finale will be aired on Wednesday, May 16, in North America. It will be added to Netflix for Irish users the following day.

According to Varietythe show was hit hard by a number of behind-the-scenes problems – many of which stemmed from having four showrunners in just two seasons.

Had the political drama been renewed for a third season, they would have had a fifth showrunner.

The publication reports that while the show was a strong draw in international markets, the dropping ratings – as well as the consistent creative changes – may have led to ABC deciding to pull the plug.

But in a week that has proven just about anything is possible in the land of television cancellations, we’re hoping there will be a last minute lifeline thrown to Tom Kirkman & Co.
