We are devastated.

We are devastated.

The news we were dreading has finally arrived. Mary Berry has quit The Great British Bake Off out of “loyalty” to the BBC.

According to Digital Spy, she has released the following statement:

“My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one

“What a privilege and honour it has been to be part of seven years of magic in a tent. I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision.”

“The Bake Off family – Paul, Mel and Sue have given me so much joy and laughter.

“I wish the programme, crew and future bakers every possible success and I am so very sad not to be a part of it. Farewell to soggy bottoms.”

Now it just leaves Paul Hollywood in the show which has now moved to Channel 4. With his partner in crime now gone from the show it’s unlikely that he will return.

Mel and Sue were the first to quit the show saying:

“We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. “We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.”

Since then Mel has signed up to present a new show, Let It Shine, along with Graham Norton and Gary Barlow. It is said to be like an X Factor type show where they are looking for a tribute Take That band.
