There’ll be a Normal People special on RTÉ’s Comic Relief this week

The chain lives on.

Normal People first landed onto our screens many months ago, but the fascination, the excitement, and the enthusiasm remains.

Not only have Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones been catapulted into intense celebrity status overnight, but they have also solidly confirmed themselves to be an incredibly sound pair of lads.

Their soundness, unsurprisingly, also extends to their willingness to engage in charity drives during these unprecedented and trying times, as they will both be appearing on RTÉ’s Comic Relief this week as part of a Normal People special.

Incredible scenes.

Comic Relief’s co-founder, director Richard Curtis, said that RTÉ Does Comic Relief will feature a whole host of Irish entertainers, actors, and comedians all doing their bit for charity.

Mescal and Edgar-Jones will also be joined by Normal People director Lenny Abrahamson for a special segment on the Friday show.

“I can’t even say all about it because there’s a guest star in it,” Curtis told RTÉ’s radio 1. “But it’s really beautiful.

“One of the things about Comic Relief is it just gives opportunities for things to happen that would never happen.

“I can’t imagine any context in which they would have allowed a sort of little extra special into the world of Normal People – and you guys have got two! I promise you, though, these are two very special bits.”

Mescal and Edgar-Jones will be joined by the likes of Dara O’Brien, Aisling Bea, Chris O’Dowd and many more as they raise vital funds for Ireland’s charity sector.

Baz Ashmawy, Deirdre O’Kane, Nicky Byrne, Jennifer Zamparelli and Eoghan McDermott will host the live show that has promised “showbiz reunions and comedy sketches with unexpected celebrity collaborations, live studio performances, lip-syncs, dance and sport challenges and much more.”

RTÉ Does Comic Relief airs this Friday, June 26 on RTÉ One at 8pm.
