This old selfie of Ryan Tubridy and Meghan Markle has just resurfaced

And we can't quite believe it.

Oh, what could have been.

She’s well and truly off the market now, but we’ve just gotten a glimpse of what it might have looked like had Meghan Markle ended up with an Irishman instead of a British prince.

Ryan Tubridy has just shared a selfie of himself and Meghan on his Instagram page.

The Late Late host met the future princess in Washington D.C. a few years back and has just dug out the snap they took to commemorate the occasion.

Meghan and Ryan were introduced by a mutual friend (where have we heard that before?) at the W Hotel in the US capital while Ryan was over visiting for St Patrick’s Day three years ago when she was still “an actress on a show called Suits.”

Speaking on The Ryan Tubridy Show on Radio 1 this morning, he said that the pair spent around 10 minutes together and that as well as being very nice, she was “good fun.”

“Harry’s a lucky man.”

He asked her for a selfie at the time and she obliged but he lost the photo until recently, he explained.

That wasn’t quite the end of it, though – Ryan told listeners that since the news of Meghan’s engagement to Prince Harry, there’s been interest in the pair’s ‘friendship’.

He’s been approached by filmmakers in the UK inviting him to take part in a documentary about Meghan and Harry.

Ryan had previously referred to her on-air as his “old friend Meghan Markle, people thought I was serious!”

Of course, Meghan wasn’t Ryan’s only ever royal encounter.

He was given the task of showing Meg’s future grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth, around the Guinness Storehouse when she visited Dublin in 2011.
