Actress Joan Lorring passed away last Friday in the New York City suburb of Sleepy Hollow. She was 88.
Lorring was born in Hong Kong and moved to the US with her mother in 1939, escaping the coming Japanese invasion. She began her career in radio.
Transitioning to acting, Lorring received an Oscar nomination for her supporting role as Bessie Watty in the 1945 drama, The Corn is Green.The actress also appeared in The Verdict and Three Strangers.
Her TV career included stints in The Love Boat, while her Broadway roles won her the Donaldson Award in 1950.
She’s survived by her daughters Andrea and Santha Sonenberg.
"Right up until her death, she continued to have fans who wrote and sought her autograph and she had a following," daughter Santha Sonenberg said.
