The Outsider looks set to be the first unmissable show of 2020 and it starts very soon

Paul Moore

Imagine the murder mystery genre mixed with supernatural horror. From the mind of Stephen King, the cast in this is incredible too. Set record.

There’s no denying that 2019 was an exceptional year for TV and while the final season of Game of Thrones fell flat, we had the likes of Chernobyl, Succession, Watchmen, Mindhunter and more to get stuck into.

However, time stays still for nobody and we’re already looking forward to one of 2020’s big new releases, The Outsider.

Adapted from Stephen King’s novel of the same name, the supernatural thriller looks set to anyone that loves the murder mystery and horror genres.

The first trailer definitely grabbed our attention and Sky Atlantic have confirmed that the show will start on 13 January.

The 10-episode series follows police detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn), as he sets out to investigate the mutilated body of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson found in the Georgia woods. The mysterious circumstances surrounding this horrifying crime leads Ralph, still grieving the recent death of his own son, to bring in unorthodox private investigator Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo), whose uncanny abilities he hopes will help explain the unexplainable.

Aside from King’s work and an excellent trailer, the cast in this is superb with the likes of Mendelsohn, Cynthia Erivo, Jason Bateman, Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vázquez, Jeremy Bobb and Marc Menchaca all starring.

Behind the scenes, the show has Richard Price (The Night Of, The Deuce), Jack Bender (Mr. Mercedes, Lost) as executive producers, so we’re in very safe hands here.

Given the calibre of the talent involved here, this has the potential to be exceptional – especially if you love crime thrillers and features that have a supernatural flavour.

Truth be told, we reckon The Outsider is bound for success.

Take a look at what’s in store.
