Penn Badgley hints Beck will be back for season two of Netflix’s You

Keeley Ryan

Penn Badgley has hinted Guinevere Beck will be back for season two of Netflix’s You -even though she died at the end of season one.

The character, played by Elizabeth Lail, met a (we’re going to assume) grisly end after she found out the truth about her on-off boyfriend/the creepy serial killer Joe Goldberg, played by Badgley.

And while viewers didn’t see Beck’s final moments play out, it looks like it won’t be that way for too long – at least, according to Badgley.

The actor told ETOnline that what happened to Beck may be coming back to haunt him when season two returns – and hinted fans may see her again in flashback sequences.

He said:

“There’s a revisitation of that [the murder] with Joe in the second episode of the second season, where you get to see a bit more of the hard reality of what he did to her.

“Whereas you’re sort of, for better or worse, mercifully saved from seeing that in the first season. That always haunts me, thinking of Beck. It’s like, ‘You really did that in the first season, and we’re still going, and people really like this guy?!’ That’s disturbing.

“In his mind, she’s not even dead. I’m not giving you some kind of spoiler, she’s dead. In his mind, everyone’s still alive because the pain that he feels he suffered at their hand is very much still alive.”

The first season of You landed on Netflix on St. Stephen’s Day last year – and, following its massive success, was renewed a season two.

The second season will be based loosely on Caroline Kepnes’ book Hidden Bodies, and will follow Joe as he moves to Los Angeles to start over (and possibly find new love).
