How very dare they!
Ruth Negga, from Limerick, missed out on an Oscar last night. She was nominated for her role in Loving but lost out to Emma Stone in La La Land.
Naturally, as she’s from Ireland, we were all rooting for her and equally gutted when she didn’t win. But it was only a matter of time before someone from Britain tried to claim the actress for themselves.
Ruth was born in Ethiopia to an Irish mother and relocated to Limerick at the age of 4, where she attended primary and secondary school, before moving to Dublin to go to Trinity College.
So, when someone on This Morning called her British, people were not happy.
@thismorning Hello, Ruth Negga is Irish-Ethiopian NOT British. Please clarify this for your Irish viewers. Thanks.

They’re not the only ones that got it wrong. A reporter with the New York Times also said she was British.
A NYT journalist, @GuyTrebay called Ruth Negga ‘British’. Le sigh. An AP photographer caption, in contrast. pic.twitter.com/rxcbsqb7x0
