Piers Morgan’s crude comment about Meghan Markle was so awkward

Louise Carroll

So, it all started during a debate on Good Morning Britain.

Piers Morgan and co-host Susanna Reid were pondering over why Prince Harry and his actress girlfriend Meghan Markle weren’t sitting next to each other at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games in Toronto.

A handy location for Meghan you might say.

Presumably, with all the hype surrounding their relationship, the two chose not to sit side-by-side in the hopes that the games would be the real centre of attention. This was Susanna’s train of thought also.

The two hosts were debating over why the couple were sitting apart at the event – they sat 18 seats apart – and Piers came to the conclusion that the reason they weren’t sitting together was in order to put the focus on themselves.

He said,

“It’s common sense… When have you ever been to any sporting event where you’re literally 50 feet away from the woman you’re having sex with.”

Some viewers found the way he referred to Meghan Markle as the woman Prince Harry is having sex with inappropriate and some presumably took it as belittling Meghan as just the girl Harry sleeps with.

He continued,

“It looks ridiculous to not have your girlfriend sitting next to you because some bloke at the Palace said you shouldn’t.”

Susanna presumably felt the words needed a little toning down too. She said,

“Couldn’t you have put that it a nicer way? Couldn’t you have said they’re just sharing a room together? Or that they’re intimate?”

The answer is of course, yes, he probably could have.
