You can never tell what will happen on live TV.
RTÉ News had a fairly obvious blunder on last night’s broadcast. Sharon Ní Bheoláin anchored Monday night’s show which featured a look back at Oprah Winfrey’s powerful speech at the Golden Globes.
Her speech has sparked suggestions that she may run for President of America in the future, something that she has yet to rule out.
Amid all the speculation, Sharon crossed over to the new Washington Correspondent, Paul O’Donovan for his first update on the show. He reflected on what she had said and what others have said in relation to her potential campaign.
Paul had begun to discuss her speech when his Washinton backdrop suddenly fell to black. Then a projection of Apple TV came through with someone flicking through the movie section.
Without being able to cut back to the Washinton backdrop, they decided to leave it all black, with Paul finishing his debut broadcast.
Sharon thanked Paul and finished by saying, “Viewers will have to excuse our set malfunction”.
Ah, live TV.
