A Pretty Little Liars star has just joined the new Riverdale spin-off

Keeley Ryan

Calling all Riverdale (and Pretty Little Liars) fans.

Following on from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – a “companion” series to Riverdale, which airs on Netflix – a brand new Riverdale spinoff was announced earlier this year.

In January, a pilot order was given to a series based on the Archie Comics character Katy Keane.

The musical dramedy would follow the fashion-legend-to-be and her pals as they chase ” their twenty-something dreams in New York City” as they try to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.

It has now been confirmed that Pretty Little Liars’ Lucy Hale will be playing the role of Katy Keane.

According to VarietyKaty is described as being “bold, big-hearted and independent”, with dreams of becoming a fashion designer.

The description continues:

“When she’s not working as a personal shopper at a luxury department store, she’s navigating friendship and dating in the big city.”

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa took to Instagram after the casting news, adding:

“It’s official! @lucyhale joins the #Archieverse as fashion it girl #katykeene! Thrilled to be working with this lovely lady.”

The rest of the cast (so far) includes Ashleigh Murray, who plays Josie McCoy on Riverdale.

Camille Hyde and Lucien Laviscount have been cast as Alexandra and Alexander Cabot respectively; Jonny Beauchamp has been cast as Jorge/Ginger Lopez and Julia Chan has been cast as Pepper Smith.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who created Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will write the script alongside Michael Grassi.
