Well, this is refreshing.
Troian Bellisario, who played Spencer Hastings on the teen show Pretty Little Liars has admitted to feeling “conflicted” about the glamorous image she and her co-stars had on the show.
“Being on a show where it was so important how we looked, and yet we’re supposed to be girls that were rolling out of bed and dealing with traumatic experiences — I was conflicted for a long time personally,” she told Yahoo Style.
“What sort of image are we selling to young women? Are we making them feel worse about themselves?”
She went on to say that the pressure to look good didn’t end there.
“If I were to even wear normal makeup in my life and take a photo of myself, people ask me if I’m feeling all right. It’s a false expectation. Is that what you think you’re supposed to look like?”
Girl’s got a point – how frustrating is it when you’re watching a film or tv show and someone wakes up with a full face of makeup? Or when someone escapes a murderer without a single hair falling out of place?
It’s good to hear that even those on the other side of the camera find the whole thing a bit odd.
