If you made it through last night’s First Dates Ireland without watching at least some of it through your fingers, congrats.
The show returned to RTÉ 2 for another season last night and once again brought us some truly brilliant daters.
Among those hoping to find love were 32-year-old Amy from Dublin and 30-year-old Englishman Ben.
The pair seemed to get on well but things quickly soured when the bill was left at their table at the end of the meal.
Ben went to pay, only for Amy to offer to go halves. To her surprise, he agreed and girlfriend was not impressed.
Ben is DEAD to Amy for not paying ? #FirstDatesIRL

Plenty of folk watching at home thought Amy was pretty unreasonable for offering to share the cost and then getting annoyed when Ben agreed.
Why in the name of God should he pay for your meal Amy get it together #FirstDatesIRL

When the bill comes don’t say “we’ll split this yeah?” And then get thick over it when he agrees. Gobshite! #mixedmessages #FirstDatesIRL

Jeez, if you want him to pay, say yes when he offers. #FirstDatesIRL

I can’t staaaand that “we’ll split it”

Others, however, reminded us why she might have been expecting to be treated.
Word to the wise: if you mention your Dad’s boat, you gotta pay for meal. I don’t make the rules, I just enforce them. #FirstDatesIRL

Either way, the whole thing was a tough watch and definitive proof that dating in 2018 is a goddamn minefield.
One reason I’m glad I’ll never grace the screens of #FirstDatesIRL is the cheque issue. Half of Twitter screams “cheapskate” if you don’t pay while the other half screams “misogynist” if you do.
