Add us as a preferred source on Google »It feels like streaming services are releasing new rom-coms every other month, but none of them live up to the standards of classics like When Harry Met Sally, Notting Hill, or How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Netflix's My Oxford Year was one film I couldn't wait to watch, but one that left me sorely disappointed. However, the horrendous Letterboxd reviews are pretty entertaining.
It's hard to create a perfect rom-com when there are so many classics to live up to, but it's at least encouraging to see filmmakers try to revive the genre.
I was hesitant when I tuned into Prime's The Map That Leads To You, but the film is getting some pretty decent reviews.
And there are no film critics I trust quite as much as 20-something women on TikTok. I'm never going to trust whether a rom-com is good based on a review by a middle-aged British man in The Guardian, but I will always trust its target audience.
Viewers have been raving about the rom-com starring KJ Apa and Madelyn Cline, and we don't blame them.
The rom-com is charming, mainly down to the leads' incredible chemistry, but with quite the heartbreaking twist.
The synopsis reads:
'Heather embarks on a European adventure, her journey taking an unexpected turn when she meets Jack. Their encounter opens up new possibilities which neither had anticipated.'
This rom-com was a pleasant surprise and one of the better modern-day rom-coms I've watched in recent years, and trust me, I've watched a lot.
The premise keeps your attention from the get-go, the chemistry between the leads is infectious, and the setting will have you itching to quit your job and go travelling around Europe.
The film is based on the book of the same name by Joseph Monninger.
If you love One Day and Me Before You, then this is the film for you. It's moving, romantic, and emotional, and has a love story that is bound to melt even the coldest of hearts.
The Map That Leads To You is on Prime Video now.
