Diana famously broke with royal tradition in trying to give her sons a 'normal' childhoods - William was the first heir to the throne to attend a public school and he and his brother enjoyed days out to theme parks, the cinema and even McDonald's.
She also involved them in her charity work, bringing them to homeless shelters and to meet AIDS victims.
The brothers are also expected to discuss their mother's contribution to various causes and public life.
The documentary "will offer viewers a fresh and revealing insight into Princess Diana through the personal and intimate reflections of her two sons and of her friends and family, many of whom have never spoken before," said ITV's Head of Factual Jo Clinton-Davis.
Harry recently revealed that he's sought counselling in recent years to deal with his grief over his mother's death.
“I spent most of my life saying ‘I’m fine’… saying ‘fine’ was so much better than having to go into the details," he said.
The documentary is expected to air this autumn
