The reason William and Harry were cut from Star Wars is not what we expected

Jade Hayden

Fair enough.

A while back, it was revealed that Princes Harry and William were going to be making a cameo in the latest Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi.

The film’s star, John Boyega, announced the news last year much to the excitement of many and the disinterest of a few.

However, shortly afterwards, Boyega said that the princes had been unceremoniously cut from the film.

He told Philip Schofield on This Morning a while back:

“I did personally apologise to them yesterday and said: ‘Sorry you were cut out of the film.

“And Will was like: ‘I probably just need to work more on the skills.’

“I was like: ‘Maybe bruv.'”

Fair enough.

Boyega also revealed that the princes had played stormtroopers which meant that audiences weren’t going to know it was them anyway so whatever, it was grand.

It has recently been confirmed though what the actual reason as to why Harry and Will were cut from the film was… and it wouldn’t have been our first guess.

According to the Daily Mail, the princes’ cameos ended up on the cutting room floor because they were too tall.

Shame.

An insider told the publication stormtroopers have to be exactly 5 foot 11, and that anybody taller didn’t look right on screen.

They said:

“Stormtroopers have to be exactly 5ft 11in. At the time we shot it I think the feeling was that the scene would make the final movie.

“Everyone feels bad that William and Harry lost out on their big moment. However, the scene just didn’t work for the final cut so it was left out.”

In fairness, William is 6 foot 2 and Harry is 6 foot 1 so they probably would have been towering over everybody else on set.

Would’ve been a decent way to spot them though.

Sure look, maybe the princes will land themselves a role in the next series of Black Mirror or something.

Only time will tell.
