The Riverdale cast paid tribute to Luke Perry at their first table read for season four.

On Monday, Mädchen Amick, who plays Alice Cooper, posted a photo of the cast during the table read for season four’s first episode, In Memoriam.

“There was nothing but love, memories and mourning for our beloved Luke as we honor him in our first episode back #wemissyouluke #inmemoriam #riverdale #S4 #tableread,” she captioned the post.

Last month, the show’s creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed that the first episode of season four would be dedicated to Luke Perry.

The actor, who played Archie’s dad Fred Andrews, passed away in March after being hospitalised following a stroke.

Aguirre-Sacasa shared a photo of the script for the season four premiere, which he called a “tribute to our fallen friend.”

He captioned the photo:

“Probably the most important episode of #Riverdale we’ll do this year, if not ever.

“A tribute to our fallen friend. Thankful for this opportunity to honor Luke & Fred.”

This comes after Aguirre-Sacasa promised to “honour” Perry in the upcoming series.

Perry’s character, Fred, was last seen in the episode which aired in North America on March 6. Since then, it had been mentioned that he has gone out of town.

Aguirre-Sacasa explained to Variety that when they heard that the actor had passed away, most of season three had already been written – and they felt trying to squeeze in a scene would’ve been “doing him a disservice.”

He said:

“That was a decision we made partly because when Luke passed it was such a shock, and we were so sad — we were so bereft — and we knew we had to address it some way, but we didn’t want to get it wrong,”

However, he added that Riverdale “absolutely” plans to “honour Luke and explain what’s going on with Fred and why we haven’t seen him” in season four.

  • Riverdale will return in the United States on Wednesday, October 9. Based off previous seasons, it is likely to arrive on Netflix the following day.
