Netflix users have said they were “crying themselves to sleep” as Riverdale’s tribute to Luke Perry landed.

The 52-year-old – who played Fred Andrews on the CW series – passed away in March, five days after he suffered a stroke.

Spoilers for Riverdale’s season four premiere, In Memoriam, lie below this photo.

In Memoriam was centred around the death of Archie’s dad, Fred, who was killed in a hit-and-run after he pulled over to help a person who was stranded.

When Archie receives the news, he falls to his knees in Pops’ Diner, racked with disbelief and grief.

Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica later take a trip to Cherry Creek to learn more about Fred’s death – and to bring him back home to Riverdale.

As they return to town, FP gives them a police escort, with the entire town having lined the streets to pay a final tribute to Fred.

It also featured a funeral for Perry’s character and touching tributes from each of the characters – with Archie delivering a powerful speech.

“My dad was here for every high and every low. He’s the greatest man I’ve ever known. It hurts me that I never got to say goodbye,” he said.

“But his spirit and his memory lives on, in this town and in everyone he’s met. Fred Andrews will always be a part of Riverdale. I love you so much, Dad.”

And fans have said they were left “crying themselves to sleep” after the heartbreaking scenes.
