Samantha Womack speaks out about her exit from Eastenders

This was a big shocker.

Ronnie, played by Samantha Womack, and Roxy Mitchell, Rita Simons, leaving Eastenders was one of the most-talked-about TV moments last year.

The sisters, one of the most popular duos in soapland, drowned in an episode aired on New Year’s Day, just after Ronnie married Jack Branning.

At the time, nothing much was said about their exits and it was presumed that both actresses wanted to try something new.

However, Samantha Womack, who played Ronnie from 2007, has now spoken out in a new interview.

Although the actress doesn’t hold any hard feelings towards her former boss, she believes that Ronnie was killed because Samantha wanted to keep the character the same.

Chatting to The Mirror, Samantha said:

“It’s the fact that each time you get a new writer or director on-board they’re always trying to change the character so it’s trying to hold on to that and fight tooth and nail to keep her authenticity and that’s no easy feat, that’s probably why I was killed”.

The decision was made by Sean O’Connor, who was the producer at the time and has since left the show.

It’s all happening in Eastenders at the moment too for Linda Carter has arrived back to The Queen Vic but it’s clear that she’s holding back a major secret from her husband Mick.

Roll on tomorrow night’s episode for more EE drama!
