Say it isn’t so.

We’ve heard our fair share of fan theories and conspiracies about shows and movies but it’s never really come from one of the main stars. But now Sarah Jessica Parker has revealed her theory about Sex and The City and it’s bonkers.

She thinks that her character Carrie’s best friends, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha, are figments of her imaginations which she concocted for her newspaper article.

According to US Weekly, she told Chris Hardwick that she thought they were just a literary conceit.

She said, “I used to wonder if Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda were real. That that wasn’t just her column.”

She continued, “They’re such perfectly archetypal characters. So you’re writing a column about sexual politics and observations of female/male, primarily, heterosexual relationships, so you’re picking one type. You’re saying, ‘This type is this and this,’ and then you complicate it more, like any good writer does. So I’m not entirely sure they are real.”

She finished by saying, “What we are seeing isn’t necessarily what happened in New York City.”

The friends in the show are played by Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon so it would be interesting to hear what they think.

For now though, as much as we love a good theory we’re going to stick with the real concept of the show which sees four best friends in New York. End of.
