The outbreak of Covid-19 has led to a considerable number of changes in Ireland. Over the past week, the pubs have closed, the schools have shut down, and gatherings of more than 10 people have become highly ill-advised. Couple this with the fact that the cinemas are also now closed to minimise the spread of the virus and you've got a sudden and new way of living that is entirely unprecedented. We've had to change the way we communicate, connect, and of course, how we consume content. And while going to the cinema is one of life's great and under-appreciated luxuries, when we can't do it anymore, something has got to give. So, in a bid to ensure that Irish audiences aren't missing out on every new release, Sky Ireland are working to make sure that their customers get to watch a range of movies at home - the same day that they're released in the cinema. CEO of Sky Ireland JD Buckley said that the changes are being made to give audiences the best possible service during these concerning and confusing times. “We’re working hard at Sky to make sure we continue to look after all of our Irish customers," he said. "We’re introducing some things to help make life a little easier for everyone, whether they are working from home, looking to stay connected to loved ones, or just want to keep their family entertained.” To achieve this, Sky has partnered with NBCUniversal to make a range of movies available to rent at home through the Sky Store on the same day as the global premieres. This will begin with DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls World Tour on April 6 and will include a whole host of new movies that will be available to stream on the same day as their global release. This Friday, (March 19) The Hunt, The Invisible Man and Emma will also be available on-demand on Sky Store, following their recent release in cinemas. Lots to keep us busy, at least.
