Steven Spielberg just signed a massive deal with Netflix

The director is about to make a LOT of films for the streaming platform.

Multi-award winning director Steven Spielberg is set to become very busy man following the announcement of a massive deal with Netflix.

The streaming platform announced the news on Twitter.

“Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners is teaming up with Netflix!” they wrote.

“Thrilled to announce that the legendary filmmaker’s company will produce multiple films for Netflix each year.”

Spielberg, who is the chair of the Amblin released a statement following the announcement.

It read: “At Amblin, storytelling will forever be at the center of everything we do, and from the minute Ted (Sarandos) and I started discussing a partnership, it was abundantly clear that we had an amazing opportunity to tell new stories together and reach audiences in new ways.

“This new avenue for our films, alongside the stories we continue to tell with our longtime family at Universal and our other partners, will be incredibly fulfilling for me personally since we get to embark on it together with Ted, and I can’t wait to get started with him, Scott, and the entire Netflix team.”

In a statement, Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos welcomed the partnership.

He said: “Steven is a creative visionary and leader and, like so many others around the world, my growing up was shaped by his memorable characters and stories that have been enduring, inspiring and awakening.

“We cannot wait to get to work with the Amblin team and we are honored and delighted to be part of Steven’s cinematic history.”

Spielberg is widely regarded as one of the best film directors in the world. Throughout his career, he’s won the Academy Award for Best Director twice, as well as a Kennedy Center Honour and a Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Many of his films remain staples of American film history.
