The BAFTA Nominations Have Been Announced

The Theory of Everything and The Grand Budapest Hotel dominate the shortlist

The Theory of Everything and The Grand Budapest Hotel dominate this year’s BAFTA nominations which were revealed this morning.

Eddie Redmayne has been tipped to take home the Leading Actor award for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

But he has some strong competition in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler), Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Michael Keaton (Birdman).

Meanwhile Eddie’s co-star Felicity Jones will go up against Amy Adams (Big Eyes), Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Reese Witherspoon (Wild) and Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) for the Leading Actress award.

The BAFTA for Supporting Actor will go to either Edward Norton (Birdman), Ethan Hawke (Boyhood), JK Simmons (Whiplash), Steve Carell (Foxcatcher) or Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher).

Up for Supporting Actress are Emma Stone (Birdman) Imelda Staunton (Pride), Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game), Patricia Arquette (Boyhood) and Rene Russo (Nightcrawler).

Both The Theory of Everything and The Grand Budapest Hotel are up for Best Film but so too are Birdman, Boyhood and The Imitation Game.

Wes Anderson will no doubt be hoping to scoop the prize for Best Director for The Grand Budapest Hotel but it’s a strongly contested category with Alejandro G. Inárritu (Birdman), Richard Linklater (Boyhood), James Marsh (The Theory of Everything) and Damien Chazelle (Whiplash) in the mix.
