Oooooh.

It looks like The Talented Mr. Ripley is officially being made into a TV series.

According to Deadline, the five Patricia Highsmith novels — The Talented Mrs. Ripley, Ripley Under Ground, Ripley’s Game, The Boy Who Followed Ripley and Ripley Underwater – will be used as inspiration for the series about the sociopath and anti-hero Tom Ripley.

A source told the publication that Oscar-winning screenwriter Steve Zaillian is expected to write and direct “most of the first season’s worth of episodes”. It will be his first major series since the acclaimed HBO mini-series The Night Of.

The show will reportedly go to a “straight-to-series” deal.

There is no release date, or even cast, announced yet – but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out.

The psychological thriller has been adapted for the screen a number times since 1956.

Alain Delon, Dennis Hopper, Barry Pepper and John Malkovich have all played the sociopathic anti-hero at some point.

However, the character is best known for the 1999 film, The Talented Mr. Ripley, where he was played by Matt Damon. Jude Law and Gwenyth Paltrow also starred in the film.

The summary reads:

“In late 1950s New York, Tom Ripley, a young underachiever, is sent to Italy to retrieve Dickie Greenleaf, a rich and spoiled millionaire playboy. But when the errand fails, Ripley takes extreme measures.”
