There’s a secret meaning behind Justin Timberlake’s Sexy Back

The man himself has explained it.

Really, Justin?

Off the top of your head, what would you say Justin Timberlake’s iconic song Sexy Back is about?

Sex? Backs? Sexy backs?

All are probably correct.

There is one thing though that we’re pretty sure Sexy Back is not about… and that’s rabbits.

After all, why would it be?

According to Justin though, it actually is. Apparently.

The star told Stephen Colbert on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert recently that the song was actually about the time he was looking after a pet rabbit for someone.

Timberlake alleged that the rabbit, who was called ‘Sexy’ was in his company and that his friends were worried he would not return the rabbit.

So, in order to put their minds at ease, Justin wrote the lyrics: “I’m bringing sexy back.”

Makes sense… we guess?

Except it doesn’t whatsoever and there is no way that this is a true story but still, the thought of Justin Timberlake minding a rabbit is just a bit adorable so we’ll go with it.

And now that we think about it actually, the lyrics do point to a rabbit-based scenario.

Let us consider them.

“I’m bringin’ sexy back (yeah)” – bringing the rabbit back.

“Them other boys don’t know how to act (yeah)” – the boys don’t know what to be doing with themselves without their rabbit.

“I think it’s special, what’s behind your back (yeah)” – said the boys when Justin appeared holding the rabbit behind his back.

“So turn around and I’ll pick up the slack (yeah)” – they ask Justin to turn around so they can view the rabbit.

Then things get a little, shall we say, strange.

“Dirty babe
You see these shackles, baby
I’m your slave
I’ll let you whip me if I misbehave
It’s just that no one makes me feel this way.”

Has Justin abandoned the rabbit and gone and had some sex instead?

Is the rabbit witnessing all of this?

Is it the rabbit who is being shackled?? Surely not – that wouldn’t be fair at all.

Either way, whatever the truth, Sexy Back is a great song and it will remain iconic for years to come.

We just hope no rabbits were harmed in the making of the video.
