All the tiny details we spotted in the first Barbie trailer

Ellen Fitzpatrick

It’s finally here.

The Barbie movie trailer has finally come out and let’s just say one thing – we’ve never been so excited about a film ever.

Showing off what feels like every actor ever, there is a lot to unpack with this trailer, including Dua Lipa’s acting debut.

The film firstly looks to be the most glamorous one yet, full of all things pink, fun and everything girlie. It’s exactly what we think of when we think about the iconic doll.

Starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Nicola Coughlan, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell and just about everyone from Sex Education as various different Barbies and Kens, they’ve definitely got the casting down.

But while watching this trailer, there were quite a few small details we noticed that some people may have missed and have us buzzing even more.

First things first, almost all the props used in the film are made of plastic. Of course for Barbie, life is plastic and it’s fantastic. Greta Gerwig has taken things to the next level here and really made Barbie Land authentic to the dolls – even the waves on the beach are plastic!

The shoe is the next thing we need to talk about. When Margot’s Barbie takes off her heels, her feet are still in the same shape just like real Barbie dolls. As the kids say these days, big slay.

The rollerblades are another shoe detail that we need to discuss. As we all know now, Ken literally goes nowhere without them. This is a nod to 1991’s Rollerblade Barbie that shot out real sparks and this, it’s the icing on the cake.

As we all know, Barbie is a doll for children and we all probably had at least one growing up. The movie reflects that innocence we all grew up with, with one scene in the trailer showing Barbie not clocking onto Ken’s obvious, let’s say, romantic advances.

The Barbie slide, it’s a blink and you miss it moment but it’s there. The slide is clearly a reference to the dreamhouse but as Barbie slides down, she’s in a stiff upright position just like a doll would be.

When it comes to the dreamhouses in the film, they’re also just like real toys as they are completely open plan. When it comes to the toys, they’re designed like this to make it easier to play and they are the exact same for the movie.

The background details in this trailer are incredible as it features a welcoming Barbie-esque Statue of Liberty, a water tower that looks a lot like the famous Warner Brothers one and the cinema showing the Wizard of Oz, a clear ode to this Barbie collection.

If you are yet to see the trailer, you can check it out below. The film is set to hit cinemas on July 21st.
