Tom Hardy is unrecognisable in his latest role as an infamous Chicago mobster

He is starring in Capone biopic 'Fonzo'

Wil Jones

Tom Hardy loves completely transforming himself for a role.

Having previously played both of the Kray twins, Hardy is now taking on the role of Al Capone in Fonzo, a new film focused on the final years of the Chicago mobster’s life.

Here’s the film’s synopsis:

“Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore.

“At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.”

The movie in currently shooting, and on his Instragram Hardy has been sharing glimpses of his transformation into Capone. We’ve seen him shave his head, and wear facial scare make-up, but now he’s posted the first mugshot of Capone. And he looks very different.

People have been struck by how much he looks like the real Capone.

Hardy is one of those actors that gives such intense performances, that even if the film as a whole isn’t successful, it’s always worth watching just for him. So we’ve got high hopes for Fonzo.
