The Toy Show was the most watched TV programme of 2018 and yeah, no way

Jade Hayden

There were a lot of TV programmes on last year.

Killing Eve was one of them. Derry Girls was another. Sharp Objects was also one that you may or may not have indulged in during the horrendous 12 month period that was 2018.

Another one of those TV programmes was the Late Late Toy Show.

Not a series but a stand alone three or so hours of fun, delight, mischief, and general bizarre-ness where kids were kids, adults were kids, and Ryan Tubridy did his best Hugh Jackson impression.

It was great. This we know.

But it turns out it was so great that it was actually the most watched television programme in Ireland of 2018.

Fair play to all involved.

Released today, TAM Ireland‘s list of the Top 50 most-watched programmes of 2018 shows that the Toy Show does what it is wont to do and secured the top spot, achieving  50 percent share of viewers when it was broadcast back on November 30.

Over 1.5 million people tuned in to see the havoc and hilarity on RTE during the toy-based event that the rest of the world could only watch watch aghast from afar wondering what in the name of god was actually going on.

Honestly, nobody knew, but that’s the beauty of the Toy Show, isn’t it?
