Toy Story Fans Might Be Shocked To Know Woody Was Originally The Movie Villain

Sorry, what!?

Fans of Toy Story probably have a soft spot for Woody.

Yes, he was a little cranky and disgruntled at times, but he was also feeling neglected by Andy – so you know, he was lashing out.

In the end he totally turned it around anyway, to be one of the greatest duos of all time.

As the famous line goes, “You’ve got a friend in me.”

What fans of the show might not be expecting is that Woody was actually pegged as the villain in the original drafts of the film.

According to Cosmopolitan, Woody was supposed to be a bully, who was known for being sarcastic and vindictive to the other toys.

It was his mean behaviour that was originally meant to trigger the other toys into a rebellion in Andy’s room.

If you can’t quite picture him as the token evil genius, it might be because Woody also got a character redesign.

Plans to cast Woody as a ventriloquist dummy were dropped when the movie producers decided that the prototype looked too sinister with his heavy eyelids and down-turned mouth.

With the new happy-go-lucky Woody, the designers decided he worked better as a draw string doll with a mission to save his toy friends.

Which, as a story, worked so much better in our opinion.

Not just because that dummy is the stuff of nightmares.
